A fresh layer of mulch holds moisture, keeps weeds down and protects tree roots. We spread mulch around trees and through planting beds, kept back from the trunk the way arborists recommend.
Benefits of mulch:
• Holds moisture in the soil, so you water less.
• Blocks weeds and keeps soil cooler in summer heat.
• Breaks down over time to feed the soil and your trees.
• Gives beds and tree rings a clean, finished look.
The right way: spread 2 to 4 inches deep, and never pile it against the trunk ("mulch volcanoes" invite rot and pests).

Succulents like echeveria, agave and aloe bring year-round color and texture while using a fraction of the water a lawn needs. Paired with boulders and decorative gravel, they create a modern, low-maintenance yard that looks great in every season and stands up to Southern California heat.
From planting the right tree in the right spot to keeping your lawn and beds looking sharp, Peterson's Tree Works helps Orange County homeowners build yards that stay healthy for years. Family owned since 1980, our team knows which trees and plants thrive in Southern California, and we'll plant them the right way.
We plant new trees with the right depth, spacing and soil prep so they establish quickly and grow strong. Not sure what to plant? We'll recommend trees that fit your space, sun, soil and water needs, and keep them a safe distance from your home, walkways and power lines.
How we plant a tree the right way:
• Dig wide, not deep. The hole is 2 to 3 times wider than the root ball, so roots can spread.
• Keep the root flare at or slightly above ground level. Planting too deep is one of the most common reasons young trees fail.
• Loosen circling roots and backfill with native soil, firming gently to remove air pockets.
• Water deeply right after planting, then finish with a mulch ring kept a few inches off the trunk.
Every yard is different. We'll walk your property and recommend trees and plants that suit your goals, whether that's shade, privacy, color or low water use, so you invest in plants that last.

We focus on planting, mowing and mulch. We do not offer sprinkler or irrigation repairs.
Clean, even mowing keeps your yard looking cared for and pairs perfectly with our tree trimming and planting work.
Tips for a well-kept yard:
• Mow high and never cut more than one third of the grass blade at a time.
• Keep mulch rings around trees so mowers and trimmers don't damage the bark.
• Refresh mulch once or twice a year and pull weeds before they spread.
• Schedule regular tree trimming to let more light reach your lawn and beds.
Add color and texture with seasonal flowers, shrubs and drought-tolerant succulents. We help you choose plants that look great and handle the Southern California climate, then plant and finish the beds for you.
We group plants by sun and water needs, space them for their mature size, and top the beds with mulch or decorative rock for a clean, finished look.
